Audio software and on-device AI

We build PAM and MFX. We also develop audio software for other teams, from new instruments and effects to specific work on an existing product.

What we do

Audio plugin development

We develop instruments and effects, from an early prototype to a plugin people can install and use in their DAW.

  • VST3, AU, CLAP, and standalone applications
  • C++ audio engines and native or React interfaces
  • Samplers, sequencers, and plugin hosting
  • Audio-reactive visuals and recording
  • macOS and Windows builds and host testing

DSP design & implementation

We develop synthesis and effects algorithms, and investigate problems with sound quality or CPU use in existing DSP.

  • Synthesis, saturation, filters, and modulation effects
  • Granular processing and time-stretching
  • Profiling and audio-thread safety reviews
  • Listening comparisons and audio regression tests

On-device AI

We integrate models that run on the user’s machine. The work includes training, evaluating output, and fitting inference into an interactive application.

  • Small-model fine-tuning and evaluation datasets
  • Local inference with llama.cpp and MLX
  • Memory, latency, and hardware compatibility checks
  • Model downloads, updates, and background processing

Codebase modernization

We work on existing audio software: updating dependencies, isolating difficult code, and adding tests before changing its behavior.

  • C++ and framework upgrades
  • Tests that capture existing DSP behavior
  • Audio-thread locks and allocations
  • Performance analysis and targeted refactoring

AI tool integration

We connect assistants to an application’s own controls and data, so they can perform specific actions such as loading content or changing parameters.

  • MCP servers and application APIs
  • Tool schemas, error handling, and documentation
  • Connections to running desktop software
  • Tests for tool calls and application state changes

Development with AI agents

We help engineering teams use coding agents in their own repositories, with project instructions, useful tests, and a clear review process.

  • Repository setup and code navigation
  • Project instructions and reusable agent skills
  • Automated checks and product testing
  • Practical workshops for your team

Licensing & releases

We build the systems customers use to buy, activate, and update audio software, along with the tools needed to prepare each release.

  • License activation, trials, and customer accounts
  • Storefronts and downloadable content
  • macOS signing and notarization; Windows installers
  • Build automation and release checks

Technical advice

We review technical plans and help teams decide what needs a prototype, what can use an existing library, and where development effort is likely to go.

  • Architecture and code reviews
  • Platform and framework choices
  • Research prototypes and feasibility studies
  • Development plans and technical workshops

Working together

Project work

A feature or a whole product with an agreed scope, milestones, and handover. We define the deliverables with you before development starts.

Embedded engineering

An engineer working with your team in your repository, using your development and review process.

Technical audit

A focused review of a codebase, its performance, or its audio-thread safety. You receive a written report and a prioritized list of fixes.

Matthew Large

QA engineer & beta tester

Runs beta testing and QA for PAM and MFX across macOS and Windows hosts. Spent 20 years in global banking back-end IT, configuring and maintaining backup services. Has beta-tested audio plugins for Native Instruments, Polyverse, and Little Endian for over 20 years, known for unusually detailed, developer-sensitive reports. A multi-instrumentalist of 45 years across wind, string, and percussion instruments, most recently exploring latent-space traversal as a way to push audio machine learning somewhere new.
